Zinc Borate (ZB) is a multifunctional inorganic compound widely used as a flame retardant (FR) and smoke suppressant in various polymer applications. Zinc Borate releases water and boric acid at elevated temperatures, which suppresses flames and cools the surface. Zinc Borate reduces the release of dense and toxic smoke during polymer combustion, making it suitable for applications with strict smoke emission requirements. Application of Zinc Borate are as follows:
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): Used in rigid and flexible PVC for wire and cable coatings, flooring, and roofing materials to improve fire resistance
Polyolefins (PE, PP): Acts as a synergist with halogenated or non-halogenated systems to enhance fire performance
Elastomers: Added to rubber materials used in conveyor belts, seals, and hoses.
Engineering Plastics: Enhances the fire safety of polyamides (nylons), polycarbonates, and polyesters
Epoxy Resins and Polyurethanes: Used in adhesives, coatings, and composites for fire retardancy and thermal stability
